Family preparing for disaster -------------------- Disaster victims receiving relief

On average the NH-West Chapter of the American Red Cross responds to 30 local disasters per year and countless others nation wide. Our relief focuses on meeting people's immediate emergency disaster-caused needs such as: shelter, food, clothing, health care, mental health services, and referals to other locally availible assistance. All disaster relief services are free, an outright gift made availible through donations from generious people like you.

If you need assistance due to a disaster related emergency please call the Chapter at 603-352-3210 or 1-800-244-2214 (NH only),we are on call 24 hours a day to help you.

Get Involved

There are many ways in which you can make a difference locally or nationally:

  • Disaster Action Team (DAT)- the heart of our Chapter Disaster Services, a core group of volunteers who respond to local disasters (mostly single family house fires), meet monthly, and  receive regular training.
  • DSHR National- volunteers who are ready to deploy to national disasters for 2-3 week periods at a time.
  • Disaster Reserves- individuals, community organizations, and buisnesses who are trained in aspects of disaster relief such as: public affairs, mental health, sheltering, mass care, client case work, and many other fields. These groups do not partake in the daily responces but play a crucial role in making sure that Southern New Hampshire is prepared to respond to any large scale disasters.
  • Program Support Services- volunteers who may not be interested in responding personally to disasters but can still provide equally valuable support services to the disaster responces of the chapter. These administrative tasks can be performed at the chapter or off site on flexible schedules.
